Helping Injured Seamen Is All We Do Serving Seaman And Fishermen Across The Nation

March 19, 2010 - A dangerous shipboard fire aboard the AMERICAN DYNASTY's in its engine room has been extinguished after a three hour battle by the ship's crew. The AMERICAN DYNASTY is a 283 foot factory trawler owned by American Seafoods. There were 137 crewmen on board the vessel at the time of the fire with no reported injuries or deaths.

The Coast Guard escorted the damaged vessel to Dutch Harbor. Investigation into the cause of the fire is underway by the Coast Guard and surveyors for American Seafoods' insurance companies.

Fires aboard Alaska fish processing vessels have been remarkably frequent, major shipboard fires include the ALL ALASKAN (1994); the GALAXY (2002); and the PACIFIC GLACIER (2008). Because of the high danger risk presented by vessel fires, crews must be properly trained in fire fighting techniques and vessels must be properly equipped to contain and extinguish shipboard fires.

Stacey & Jacobsen, PLLC have experience representing crewmen in cases involving shipboard fires and explosions. In 2009, they obtained a $4 million dollar settlement for a crewman seriously injured in the explosion of a compressor in a fishing vessel's engine room.
