Fish Processor with Hand Injury Airlifted from PACIFIC GLACIER

A 46-year old fish processor, Mamadou Konato, has been airlifted from the fish processing vessel PACIFIC GLACIER. Konato reportedly suffered severe injuries to his hand while working with machinery aboard the vessel. The accident happened 40 miles southwest of Coos Bay, Oregon. The accident is under investigation by the United States Coast Guard.

The Fishing Vessel Safety Act requires certain machinery aboard fish processing vessels to be guarded for protection of crewmen. Hand injuries are all too frequent aboard fish processing vessels. Frequently, proper guards are not in place to prevent injuries. Other factors that have contributed to past hand injury accidents aboard fish processors include lack of proper training, negligence of fellow crewmen, crew fatigue, defective equipment, and failure to institute proper safety procedures.

Stacey & Jacobsen is one of the most experienced maritime law firms in the nation handling fish processor injury claims. They have represented many crewmen who have suffered serious hand injuries while working as fish processors. It is important in all serious injury cases to conduct an early investigation and to obtain the best possible medical care possible for the injured worker.
