Coast Guard Responds To Grounding, Fire On LEGEND Near Ketchikan, AK

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Juneau were notified by the crew of the LEGEND that they had run aground Monday, July 11, at Bostwick Point, south of Ketchikan. All five crewmembers left their grounded vessel and boarded the 54-foot good Samaritan vessel WESTERN ROAMER. The Coast Guard was then informed by the crew of the JULIE ANN that the LEGEND had caught fire. The crew of the LEGEND was brought safely to Ketchikan early Monday morning.

The Coast Guard and pollution investigators assessed the LEGEND and reported that the approximately 700 gallons of diesel and a catch of 2,000 pounds of salmon were consumed by the fire. The owner of the LEGEND is working with Sector Juneau to salvage the boat.
