Good Samaritan SILVER STORM Rescues Four From Capsized Fishing Vessel COPASETIC East Of Resurrection Bay

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Anchorage received a mayday call from the crew of the Seward-based COPASETIC, Wednesday, July 6. The 57-foot fishing vessel had reportedly capsized 28 miles east of Resurrection Bay.

The Coast Guard then received reports from the 58-foot good Samaritan fishing vessel SILVER STORM that they had heard the transmission and were on their way to assist the COPASETIC crew. SILVER STORM arrived on the scene, and safely recovered the four crewmembers of the COPASETIC.

Local emergency medical services awaited the SILVER STORM crew at Chenega Island to provide further care. No injuries were reported. The cause of the capsizing and sinking of the COPASETIC is unknown, but Sector Anchorage personnel are investigating.
