20 Crewmen Rescued From Alaska Fishing Vessel REBECCA IRENE

The REBECCA IRENE, a 143-foot Alaska Fishing vessel, lost power in one of its engines Tuesday in the face of an impending severe storm. Twenty crewmen were evacuated from the vessel, and 14 essential personnel remained on board. The vessel was taken under the escort of the Coast Guard Cutter SHERMAN. The rescue occurred as hurricane force winds were approaching the Alaska coastline. Seas as high as forty feet were anticipated, with coastal villages preparing for the storm making land fall. It is unknown at this time why the REBECCA IRENE lost power. There were no reported injuries associated with the incident.
