F/V MELVILLE Crewman is Medevaced for Head Injury

On September 21, around 8:35 p.m., the Coast Guard received a call from one of the two fishermen aboard 52-foot F/V MELVILLE that his crewmate had fallen and suffered a serious head injury. This happened about 90 miles west of the mouth of the Columbia River.

When the Coast Guard helicopter arrived, MELVILLE was about 75 miles from the river mouth. A rescue swimmer was lowered, and he climbed aboard to help the uninjured crewman clear the MELVILLE deck and prepare the injured man for air lift. The injured man was lifted by helicopter to the air station in Astoria, where he was transferred by EMS to Columbia Memorial Hospital.

The man was reported in stable condition at that time. No other details have been released.
