F/V PATRICIA KAY Diver Medevaced Near Kodiak, Alaska

On October 23, a 24-year-old man who was diving for sea cucumbers experienced problems while under water near Alitak Bay, which is at the south end of Kodiak Island. When he surfaced, he was short of breath, losing consciousness at times, and had symptoms of possible cardiovascular trouble. The crew of Kodiak-based, 48-foot PATRICIA KAY performed CPR and called for help, after which the man was airlifted and taken by Coast Guard helicopter to receive medical care.

According to reports, the diver had run out of air and had to surface too quickly. His name has not been released. At last word, he was said to be in stable condition.
