EURODAM - Washington State Passenger Overboard

EURODAM, a Holland America cruise ship which left Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on November 24 for a seven-day cruise, alerted the Coast Guard at 5:00 this morning of a possible man overboard, after his wife reported him missing. His baseball cap was found on deck. EURODAM was about 80 miles northwest of Puerto Rico, bound for the Bahamas from St. Thomas, at that time. The U.S. Coast Guard launched a helicopter, a patrol boat, and a cutter out of San Juan, Puerto Rico, to search for the man; Holland America reported that EURODAM turned around in hopes of locating him. The man's name has not been released, but he is said to be a 42-year-old from Washington State.

UPDATE 12/3/12

The missing man has been reported as 42-year-old Jason Gregory Rappe from Olympia, WA. The Coast Guard called off the search on late November 30, after searching over 2,000 square miles.
