Duck Boat Passengers Rescued Near San Francisco Waterfront

Around 5:30 p.m. on May 5, the operator of one of the popular San Francisco Duck Tour boats called the Coast Guard for help with an engine compartment fire while touring the waterfront. Some reports list the number of passengers as 28, while other reports cite a rescue of 14 people, but the good word is that it appears that no one was injured. The duck boat operator had already activated the on-board fire suppression system and everyone was wearing personal floatation devices by the time the Coast Guard and an SF Fire Department fire boat arrived. The Coast Guard reports taking 14 passengers off the duck boat to Pier 52, while Westar Marine Services towed the duck boat to that same pier for an investigation into the cause of the fire.
