F/V ALASKA SPIRIT Crewman Medevaced for Crushed Finger

On June 10, the Coast Guard responded to a call from Seattle-based F/V ALASKA SPIRIT that a crewman required medical care for a crushed finger about 58 miles southeast of Nunivak Island, Alaska. The injured crewman was first brought aboard a Coast Guard cutter, but an exam of the wound quickly revealed that he needed more in-depth care in order to hopefully save the finger. He was accordingly medevaced by Coast Guard helicopter for further medical attention on shore.

Seas at the time were reported to be calm. Nunivak Island is located in the Bering Sea, about thirty miles west of Tununak Bay on the Alaska mainland.
